John C Tanis III aka John Manchak
Moosic, Pennsylvania - Where to start with this guy ... In October 2013 Tanis was accused of cruelty after five malnourished dogs were found.
Earlier this year an additional twelve or so dogs were removed from his property and as a condition of bail he was allowed to keep only one dog. In April police removed another four dogs from his property and his bail was revoked.
Tanis has an extensive animal cruelty history having reportedly been charged more than 279 times in Pennsylvania and numerous times in New Jersey.
In 1999 in Moosic, Tanis pleaded guilty to charges stemming from 45 neglected dogs being removed from his mother's property.
In May 2003 Tanis was accused of cruelty after a raid on a puppy mill in Eaton Township, Pennsylvania where 46 emaciated dogs were found. He was found guilty of numerous licensing and vaccination infractions.
In January 2004 Tanis was found guilty of cruelty in New Jersey and was given over $11,000 in fines and a suspended 60-day jail sentence stemming from a 9-year-old Monmouth County, New Jersey case after police caught up with him during a traffic stop while he was delivering puppies to customers in December 2003.
Shortly thereafter Pennsylvania authorities seized another 30 dogs from Tanis' Eaton Township home and a warrant was filed for his arrest.
He was caught at a New York airport in February 2004.
Like most animal abusers Tanis has a non animal-related criminal history as well.
According to reports he was sentenced to five years in prison on a Federal firearms charge and one year on counterfeit check charges.
Previously he was convicted of a firearms charge in New Jersey.
